A Quilt for Baby

I just finished my very first quilt on Monday...I cut everything on Sunday and then, in a rather compulsive fit of craftiness, sewed the whole thing on Monday. I had intended to take more pictures of the process, but it turned out to be less of a process and more of a compulsive frenzy of snipping, stitching, and ironing. Always promising myself, "just another hour more," until suddenly it was 5:00 and time to get dinner going and the wee quilted wonder was, wonders of wonders!, done. I am in love. Purples, pinks, greens, and browns. A quilt for a girl, but not too girly. Longing to make another one, big enough for our bed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Queen-size quilts are somewhat more time-intensive than baby ones.

There should be a word for the feeling one has upon creating something with the intention of giving it away, but finding one's self so in love with the finished product that the giving becomes more difficult than one had anticipated. A combination of love and satisfaction and nostalgia, knowing that this delightful little creation has at once come into being and is about to pass out of your hands.
